Join Our Board of Directors
We are now accepting applications for the Board of Directors.
Summary
Harmony Wildlife Rehabilitation Center cares for Tennessee’s orphaned and injured wildlife and returns them to the wild. We are seeking people who share our passion for the environment to join our working board of directors.
Harmony is a 501(c)(3) corporation in the State of Tennessee and is governed by a volunteer board. Our board, on behalf of the general public, ensures that the organization upholds its charitable purpose. We are making a concerted, sincere effort to develop and nurture a dedicated, diverse, and inclusive board that supports Harmony’s mission in Tennessee.
Responsibilities
Board members should make the following commitments to the organization.
Actively contribute to Harmony’s strategic focus, financial sustainability, and effectiveness.
Proactively lead and assist with fundraising efforts and new board member recruitment.
Serve as ambassadors and advocates and continually develop relationships within individuals, businesses, and other organizations that help support and inform the organization’s purpose and work.
Attend a preliminary “onboarding the board” session before attending the first board meeting to learn about the organization, as well as understand current strategy and needs. An in-person meeting is preferred but virtual is acceptable.
Maintain an awareness and knowledge of the staff, programs, services, and needs by participating in “a day of volunteer service” at least once per quarter.
Attend and participate in a minimum of nine of monthly board meetings per year. Attendance can be in-person or virtual. Commit to meeting preparation, actively participate in discussions and decision making, and follow through on action items by agreed-upon deadlines. Members must maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of the organization.
Serve a three-year term. The specifics regarding titles and roles of board officers, quorum requirements, and other matters can be found in Harmony’s bylaws.
Make a personal, meaningful financial donation to Harmony. As a board member, you clearly demonstrate your commitment with your financial support.
Serve on one or more committees such as fundraising, marketing and public relations, programs, and strategy. Standing committees are typically long term or permanent and each committee must have a written description. Subcommittees can be established for short term tasks.
Sign an annual conflict-of-interest and disclosure statement. Update the statement during the year if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings.
Ensure legal and ethical integrity and accountability.
