Know before you mow
(or trim)
With animal baby season right around the corner, it’s important to keep wildlife safety in mind as you begin tree and yard maintenance. The first babies we see in our area are typically squirrels, owls, and rabbits. Owls and squirrels are already nesting in trees; rabbits and other species overwinter in brush piles or overgrown vegetation.
Be vigilant. Check trees and branches before trimming, and always check brush piles, tall grasses, and areas requiring landscaping before starting work. If you discover that wild friends are living there, simply delay your project for a week or two or avoid working in that spot. They’ll likely be gone before you know it. What may be a small inconvenience for us can mean everything to them.
Thank you for being a friend to wildlife!
