Be a friend (not a fright) to wildlife on Halloween

If you love Spooky Season and wildlife as much as we do, be sure your outdoor Halloween decor is only a fright for humans! Safe decor options include statuary, large decorative items, and pumpkins (please don’t treat them with bleach). You can be a friend to wildlife by avoiding decorations that pose a threat to the animals. For example:
Artificial spiderwebs and netting can ensnare curious critters.
Monofilament, or fishing line, is one of the worst offenders. It’s invisible to most animals and causes countless injuries and deaths year-round.
String lights or other similar hanging decor can be a danger to deer and other animals. Case in point: the buck in the photo below is in our neighborhood now.
Have fun this Halloween and please keep wildlife in mind as you celebrate!
